NHS appointment can be made in the the usual way through your General Practitioner. This will require using the NHS Choose&Book system.

The commisioners of NHS care may insist that patients are seen by physiotherapists before sanctioning a Consutlant referral. In many cases this is entirly appropriate and productive.

Patient electing to pay for private appointment do not loose the right to NHS care. The NHS in England has a policy to help define the boundaries between NHS and private care. Additional guidance is presented by the BMA.
